What is the purpose of the Visitors' Comments?

The Visitors' Comments is for the exchange of information regarding the coastal and near-coastal regions of the Mexican states of Oaxaca, Jalisco, and Colima among visitors, potential visitors, local residents, armchair travelers, etc., etc.

Do I have to Log In to use the Visitors' Comments?

Anyone may read the comments, but you must log in to post a comment. You must be a registered user in order to log in. In addition to the ability to post, registration enables the following:
- It allows you to go back later and edit your own posts.
- It allows you to choose a user name that no one else is allowed to use, so no one else can pretend to be you.
- You can select a different language for the menus. The default language is English but you can set it to Spanish or even "Spanglish" which is both English and Spanish separated by a "•". (Contact me if your language is not available--I can probably fix that.)
- You can create a signature that will appear automatically at the bottom of your posts.
- You can selectively hide the posts of individual users.
- You can send private messages to other registered users.
- You can upload images and .pdf files.
- You can report inappropriate posts to the moderators.

Are the Visitors' Comments moderated?

Some forums are moderated and some users are moderated. Moderators may adjust the scope of moderation as required. The posts of new users are moderated by default. Registered users may participate by clicking on "Report" to alert the moderators to a post that is off-topic, contains person-to-person name-calling, contains objectionable images, or is otherwise inappropriate.

To what degree are the Visitors' Comments censored?

Posts may be removed if they do not pertain to or contribute to the discussion or if they appear to be designed to agitate or contain person to person name-calling. Posts that contain images that either the moderators or other users deem objectionable are subject to removal. Topics posted in the Mexico forums that are not about Mexico will be moved to the Off-Topic Forum. Certain bad words, such as the f-word, will be excluded automatically by software.

Navigate to one of the Visitors' Comments Forums. In the menu bar at the top of the list, click on "Control Center". In the next window, click on Change Password.

How to I create a signature to appear at the bottom of my posts?

Navigate to one of the Visitors' Comments Forums. In the menu bar at the top of the list, click on "Control Center". In the next window, click on Edit Signature. If you want to add an image to your signature, do the following: Upload your image to tomzap.com by clicking on Edit My Files. Click on Browse and locate the image on your computer. After the image has been uploaded, it will appear in a list. Click on the image so that it is displayed. Copy the URL from the top of your browser; it will look something like "http://www.tomzap.com/ph5/file.php/xx/xx/myimage.gif". Use the back button to get back to Control Center and click on Edit Signature. Paste the URL into the signature window. Type the image tags [IMG][/IMG] around the URL like this: "[IMG]http://www.tomzap.com/ph5/file.php/xx/xx/myimage.gif[/IMG]", without the quotes. When you've added the text and images to your signature, click Submit.

When I post a message, why does it say I'm an Anonymous User?

When tomzap.com moved to a new server in November 2009, some of the database fields were lost with the result that the username is not displayed properly. I have repaired many of these but since there are more than 4000 registered users, it is unlike that I will fix them all. You can correct the problem by clicking on Control Center, then Edit my Profile. In the Real Name box, enter your username (not your real name) and click Submit. This will result in your username being listed correctly in any new posts but in existing posts you will remain Anonymous User.

What can I do about a post that I don't approve of?

There are two things you can do. 1) You can click on Report in the lower right-hand corner of the post. That will alert the moderators. 2) If you don't want to see the posts from that author you can click on Hide Messages from this User at the top of the post. This will eliminate the text from this user's posts. You can easily restore the text by clicking Show msgs from this User at the top of the post.

Can I change the language used for the menus?

Yes, there are several languages available and I may be able to add more on request. tom@tomzap.com Click on Control Center, then Forum Settings. In the drop-down list box for Language, select the language you prefer and click Submit. One of the languages is called Spanglish which will display the menus in both English and Spanish together. That may be useful if you are trying to learn one language or the other.

You must be a registered user and logged in to the Visitors' Comments. Navigate to one of the Visitors' Comments Forums, like Huatulco, for example. In the menu bar at the top of the list, click on "New Topic". Fill out the form and click on "Post message".

How do I display an inline image?

You can attach an image to your message by clicking Attach a file and it will be available for others to view or download but is not displayed within the post. To display an image within your post, you must first upload the image to your own web space somewhere. Then you give the URL to your image within your message like this: [img]http://mywebspace.com/myimage.jpg[/img]

You can't actually delete a post but you can edit it and remove the text but you must leave at least one character. To delete it completely, send me the URL and your request tom@tomzap.com.

I have booked a week at the Hotel Días Felices and I just read about someone having a bad experience there. What should I do?

I wouldn't worry about one or two bad comments. Even the best places will occasionally have a dissatisfied customer and such a customer is more likely to comment than someone who thought the hotel was okay. However, if the majority of the posts reflect bad experiences then I would definitely consider alternatives.

Strangely enough, you can. I do warn the advertisers that this can happen and it has happened in the past. The result of this policy is that this web site ends up hosting the advertisements of credible business people who can face this possibility.

Yes, provided your announcement is informative and relevant to a particular area that is covered in the Visitors' Comments. Please do not broadcast your announcement in multiple forums. Some of the readers may take offense at the practice of advertising in the Visitors' Comments; it will be helpful if you also participate in the forums to provide other useful information to readers.

I don't like seeing all these user advertisements. What can be done?

Click on Hide Msgs from this User at the top of the post next to the username. This will remove the bodies of all of this user's posts from your view. In the event that the user does post something of interest to you, just click "User Ignored - Click to show/hide this message" and the one message body will appear. If you feel that a user is abusing his or her privilege to advertise, click on Report to alert the moderators.

¿Tengo que conectar a usar los Comentarios de los Visitantes?

Cualquiera puede leer los comentarios, pero usted debe conectar a enviar un comentario. Usted debe ser un usuario registrado para conectar. Además de la habilidad a enviar los comentarios, el registro habilita a lo siguiente:
- Le permite remontarse más tarde y revisar sus propios postes.
- Le permite seleccionar un nombre del usuario que nadie que el resto se permite usar, para que nadie que el resto puede pretender ser usted.
- Puedes seleccionar un idioma diferente para los menús. El idioma por defecto es Inglés pero puedes selecionar Español o "Spanglish" qué es ambos Inglés y Español separó por un "•". (Me avisa si su idioma no está disponible--nosotros probablemente puedo arreglar que.)
- Puedes crear una firma que aparecerá automáticamente al fondo de sus mensajes.
- Puedes esconder los postes de usuarios individuales selectivamente.
- Puedes enviar los mensajes privados a otros usuarios registrado.
- Puedes subir imágenes y archivos de tipo .pdf.
- Puedes informar los postes impropios a los moderadores.

Algunos foros se moderan y algunos usuarios se moderan. Moderadores pueden ajustar el alcance de moderación como requerido. Se moderan los postes de nuevos usuarios por defecto. Los usuarios registrado pueden participar pulsando el botón en "Informe" para alertar a los moderadores a un poste que es el fuera de-tema, contiene el nombre-llamando persona a persona, contiene las imágenes inaceptables, o es por otra parte impropio.

¿A qué grado se censuran los Comentarios de los Visitantes?

Podemos quitar los mensajes si ellos no pertenecen a o contribuyen a la discusión o si ellos aparecen ser diseñados agitar o contener a la persona al persona nombre-profesión. Mensajes que contienen imágenes que o los moderadores u otros usuarios juzgan inaceptable están sujeto al levantamiento. Se moverán temas anunciados en los foros de México que no están sobre México al Off-Topic Forum. Ciertas palabras malas serán excluidas automáticamente por el software.

Navegue a uno de los Foros de los Comentarios de Visitantes. En la barra del menú a la cima de la pagina, pulse el botón en "Centro del Control". En la próxima ventana, pulse el botón Editar mi Firma. Si usted quiere incluir una imagen a su firma, haga a lo siguiente: Suba su imagen a tomzap.com pulsando el botón Editar mis Archivos. Pulse el botón Browse y localice la imagen en su computadora. Después de que la imagen ha sido subir, aparecerá en una lista. Pulse en la imagen para que se despliegue. Copie el URL de la cima de su navegador web; se parecerá algo "http://www.tomzap.com/ph5/file.php/xx/xx/miimagen.gif". Use el botón de la parte de atrás para volver el Centro de Control y pulsar el botón adelante Editar mi Firma. Pegue el URL en la ventana de la firma. Teclee la imagen etiqueta [IMG][/IMG] alrededor del URL como esto: "[IMG]http://www.tomzap.com/ph5/file.php/xx/xx/myimage.gif[/IMG]", sin las citas. Cuando usted ha agregado el texto e imágenes a su firma, pulse el botón Enviar.

Cuando tomzap.com movió a un nuevo servidor en el 2009 de noviembre, algunos de los campos del banco de datos estaban perdidos con el resultado que el nombre de usario no se despliega propiamente. Yo he reparado muchos de éstos pero hay subsecuentemente más de 4000 usuarios registrado, es diferente que yo les arreglaré todos. Usted puede corregir el problema pulsando el botón en el Centro de Control, entonces Editar mi Perfil. En la caja del Nombre Real, entre en su nombre de usario (no su nombre real) y pulsa el botón Enviar. Esto producirá su username a listándose correctamente en cualquier nuevo mensajes pero en los mensajes existentes seguirá siendo el Usuario Anónimo.

Hay dos cosas que puede hacer. 1) Puede pulsar el botón Informe en la más bajo esquina diestra del poste. Eso alertará a los moderadores. 2) Si usted no quiere ver los mensajes de ese autor, puede pulsar Hide Messages from this User a la cima del mensaje. Esto eliminará el texto de los mensajes de este usuario. Usted puede restaurar el texto fácilmente pulsando el botón Show Msgs from this User a la cima del mensaje.

Incluso los lugares más buenos tendrán un cliente descontentado de vez en cuando y semejante cliente más probablemente es comentar que alguien que pensó el hotel era de acuerdo. Sin embargo, si la mayoría de los mensajes refleja las experiencias malas entonces que yo consideraría las alternativas definitivamente.

Pulse el botón "Hide Msgs from this User" a la cima del poste al lado del nombre de usario. Esto quitará los cuerpos de los postes de todo este usuario de su vista. En caso del usuario anuncia algo de interés a usted, sólo clic "User Ignored - Click to show/hide this message" y el un cuerpo del mensaje aparecerá. Si usted se siente que un usuario está abusando su privilegio para anunciar, pulse el botón Informe para alertar a los moderadores.
