Arrive into Honolulu on the 13th of September. Fly on to Molokai on the last flight with aloha Island Air one of the
commuter airlines.
The sun is at your back and the clouds and seas are beautiful around 6 pm. This is a good time to fly over Diamond head and see Honolulu and the Harbor. . The flight time of 15 minutes takes you from the modern fast paced tourist world of Honolulu to the languid island where old Hawaii still exists . Approaching Molokai, you can see the whole island plus Maui and Lanai as you drop down over the west end to land at the airport. You will be picked up at the Molokai airport with a big lei greeting from me and off we will go to Hotel Molokai, a funky island style small hotel filled with flowers on the edge of the lagoon. Polynesia surrounds you immediately. An island style puupuu party the first night will introduce you to our painting pals.
We will begin our painting adventure the next day. I plan to take you on an adventure in to the spirit of this small
island . you will be filled with the stories and legends that abound here. We have ever so many places to put our easels
and paint. I have given much thought to various locations to paint and have cut it down to 5 spots to spend at least 4
hours. We would be driving from one end of the island to the other. That is no big deal as the island is only about 10
miles wide and 30 miles long. Our choices range from pigmy forests, to long uninterrupted isolated beaches, to sunny
coves and coconut groves, and Hawaiian fish ponds, to alpine meadows overlooking high cliffs , to a trip down the
Kalapapa trail where you will find the now closed Father Damien settlement . the churches Father Damien. built. all over the
island are now well over 100 year standing. and best of all the people.
The Hotel provides ample space to finish up paintings when we return from our on site painting adventures in
the early afternoon.
I am planning to give my usual challenges. But this time I am only giving 3 I will be making the challenges abound in the
lore of the island. We will start in reality and adventure into the fantasy of the island spirit. I will expect you to finish 3 to 4
paintings and take home many sketches and photos. to be used later in paintings.
*Did you know that the ancient and sacred hula was born on the island of Molokai and the spirit of the hula is alive in
every one who lives on the island.
*Did you know the island used to be called the forbidden island because it was the sacred spot of the kahunas. In
ancient times new kahunas would come to Molokai from all the other islands in canoes to learn the secrets of being a
kahuna. Molokai was kept a private and away place.
*Did you know that the sea cliffs on the north shore are among the highest sea cliff in the world?
*Did you know that the forrest at the top of the mountain you will see as you land, is a pigmy forrest made up of
plants normally 60 to 100 feet high , have become over the centuries dwarf species of only a few inches in height?.
*Did you know that now this island is populated with about 8000 residents most are native Hawaiian by birth.
Many live on Hawaiian home lands and to do this they must be over 75% hawaiian. Molokai is a natural island where the
people do not want to see much progress into the 21 century. And if you see a white owl when you look out your
window at night , seeing it will bring you good luck.
*The food is Hawaiian, Filipino, Japanese and hauole( american) and a mixture of it all called island style. your
adventure in food will not be expensive.
*the dress is casual, slippers, shorts, and tee shirt is almost formal.
*the harmful wild animals are found hiding in the rocks, scorpions and centipedes, no lion , tigers, or snakes...
*swimming in the secluded beaches and bays is delightful. and the pool at the hotel is just perfect.
*Beside painting our hearts out , we can , swim, lounge, eat local food and dance the hula. and ride a mule.
*the mule ridefor those of you that are more adventurous, to Kalapapa and the Father Damien historical area is
a rush. You ride down 2000 foot cliffs to the settlement at the bottom.
* snorkel and dive the barrier reef , or go to the back side of the island which is still primitive and uninhabited or
dive the island of Lanai with a great Hawaiian diver Named Bill Kapuni.
*Hike up to the falls at the east end is also an adventure.
Shopping is quick, the store street in the town of Kaunakakai is about 2 blocks long. There is a great gallery
that sells island work from local artists . The island is home to many artists who sell their art work from quilts to carved
monkey pod bowls. I f I have peeked your interest in this workshop and you want to see pictures of just what I have
been talking about check out this site website:http://visitmolokai.com/fototour.html.

The villages of Melaque, San Patricio, Villa Obregon lies at the tip of Bahía de Navidad, a cliff-lined bay an hour
north of Manzanillo, on Mexico's Pacific coast. In a half kilometre stretch of beach, are restaurants and hotels
that attracts tourists with little interest in throbbing, fully-developed resort towns. At the south end of the
bay, just a few kilometres away, is Barra de Navidad, another small scale resort town surrounded by lagoons.
The very expensive Grand Bay Hotel at the tip of the bay is a visual experience like a castle with a moat.
