El Faro as seen from Andador Escénico (the seawalk)   More Photos and Aerial Photos
El Faro means lighthouse and this is the one in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. The 15-meter (49') lighthouse was built in 1936 on top of a cliff at the western entrance to the harbor, midway between Playa Principal and Playa Manzanillo. The lamp has a 40-meter focal plane and emits two white flashes every 10 seconds. The lighthouse is not open to the public now although visitors were allowed in the past.

El Faro is a Puerto Escondido landmark and locations are often referenced to it. The short street leading to the lighthouse is called Camino al Faro.
